Today’s track is “Future Soul Song” from the 20Ten album. We just covered this album a few days ago. It’s the one that you got in 2010 along with your issue of German Rolling Stone. “Future Soul Song” is a smooth ballad with powerhouses Liv Warfield and Shelby J. showing a considerable amount of restraint on background vocals. It’s a sweet ballad and I”m struggling to find a lot to say about it.
Instead, I shall keep today’s post brief and give some overdue respect before I sign off. I’d love to take credit for all of the facts and stories I post here. While I’ve read a lot of books and listened to countless podcasts on Prince, much of the information I get comes from the fantastic princevault.com. Whenever I want to verify a fact about personnel, songwriting, Billboard charts, or anything else, that’s the site I go to first. Respect to the people at princevault.com. I use it nearly every day, even when I’m not writing about Prince.
That’s it today. “Future Soul Song” is an enjoyable if unspectacular slow jam without any remarkable history or stories behind it. I’ll give it a score right down the middle and hope for something more noteworthy tomorrow.
