Was I familiar with Eagles?  I’m a middle-aged straight white dude from the midwest. What do you think? I did learn that they’re just called Eagles and not The Eagles, so that’s cool. Should I have known that? Dope band name, by the way. They’re ubiquitous so I’ve never really thought about it, but you can’t go wrong naming your band after a badass bird.

Had I heard Hotel California before?  Start to finish? No. I’ve heard a lot of the songs, but I haven’t consumed it all at once in order.

Thoughts on Hotel California: Hotel California is a perfect example of why I’m doing this. People fucking love Eagles. I was really hoping I’d listen to this album and have an “oh shit” lightbulb moment that would unlock some portion of my brain that hadn’t been accessed. This album did the opposite. It reaffirmed what I thought I already knew. It’s fine. It doesn’t make me want to punch someone in the face but I’m not running away from my computer to buy the record either. I could take it or leave it.

Favorite track: Call me crazy, but there was a moment listening to the title track when I thought to myself, wait a second…is “Hotel California” kind of funky? The bassist was killing it there for a minute.

Will I listen to Hotel California again?  Nah. Not intentionally, anyway. Y’all keep enjoying it. I’m good. It is what I thought it was.

Would I buy it on vinyl? Nope.
